AFRICA – CHINA COLLABORATION
Strengthening Africa – China Renewable Energy Collaboration
The transition to sustainable and reliable energy across Africa requires stronger connections between markets, businesses, institutions and technology providers.
Recognising this opportunity, renewable energy associations from China, Rwanda, Ethiopia and Kenya are working together to strengthen collaboration, knowledge exchange and business linkages across the energy sector.
The collaboration brings together the Chinese Renewable Energy Industries Association (CREIA), the Energy Private Developers Association (EPD) of Rwanda, the Ethiopian Solar Energy Development Association (ESEDA) and the Kenya Renewable Energy Association (KEREA).
Through this cross-country partnership, the associations are creating a platform for South–South cooperation between China and Africa, with a focus on policy dialogue, business-to-business (B2B) linkages, investment opportunities, technology exchange, and capacity building.
The collaboration is supported by WRI Africa and WRI China, whose engagement has helped strengthen connections between African and Chinese energy stakeholders through knowledge exchange, business linkages, policy dialogue, and opportunities for technology and investment cooperation.
The initiative, “Strengthening Africa–China Renewable Energy Collaboration through Policy Dialogue, B2B Linkages and Technology Transfer,” seeks to connect African energy markets with Chinese expertise, technologies, businesses and investment opportunities, while creating stronger channels for African stakeholders to share their market needs, experiences and priorities.
The collaboration extends beyond individual country engagements. Through joint activities, trade and industry engagements, knowledge exchange, business matchmaking and regional dialogue, the participating associations are working to build stronger relationships between Chinese and African energy-sector stakeholders and identify practical opportunities for cooperation.
For EPD, the partnership provides a platform to connect Rwanda’s private energy sector with wider African and Chinese networks, while also bringing Rwanda’s experiences and market opportunities into a broader Africa–China energy dialogue.
