At RP Kicukiro, trainees demonstrated strong technical understanding and readiness for industrial attachments. Discussions focused on preparing them for real work environments, with emphasis on discipline, consistency, and professionalism. Gacuriro Technical Secondary School

Intersolar Africa 2026 – Nairobi |
|
|
|
Intersolar Africa 2026, held in Nairobi, brought together over 3,000 participants from 60+ countries, highlighting the growing momentum of Africa’s clean energy sector.
EPD was represented by its CEO, Serge Wilson MUHIZI, who engaged with regional and global stakeholders on the role of renewable energy not just as a source of power, but as a driver of productivity, inclusion, and resilience.
A key highlight was EPD’s contribution to the Deep Dive East Africa II session, where discussions focused on moving projects from pipeline to implementation. Representing Rwanda, insights were shared on: Market readiness for solar and energy storage Policy and regulatory progress Financing challenges and risk mitigation The importance of private sector coordination
The session brought together regional and international partners, reinforcing the value of cross-country collaboration in scaling clean energy solutions.

Engaging Media for Climate Action: Rwanda Environmental Journalists Training |
|
|
|
EPD hosted Rwanda Environmental Journalists and digital influencers, in collaboration with RCCDN Rwanda, Kilimo Trust, and the Peace and Development Network (PDN), for a strategic dialogue at the intersection of environment, climate change, and agriculture.
The session created a platform for knowledge exchange and discussion on how sustainable energy solutions can address pressing environmental challenges affecting communities across Rwanda.

| Clean Cooking Awareness Campaigns – Rubavu & Rutsiro |
|
|
|
EPD, through the SFERE Project, continued to drive clean cooking awareness across Rubavu and Rutsiro districts, engaging communities on the benefits of safer and more sustainable cooking solutions.
To capture the full scope of the campaign, EPD produced a short documentary highlighting activities on the ground:
Across both districts, the campaign combined community engagement, practical demonstrations, and direct interaction with households through markets and schools, creating space for learning, dialogue, and adoption.
Participants were able to see firsthand how improved cookstoves: Reduce harmful smoke exposure Improve cooking efficiency Protect the environment Enhance safety within households
In the presence of the Minister, the campaign brought together local leaders, province and security representatives, as well as community members, reinforcing the importance of collective action in accelerating the transition to clean cooking.
From Awareness to Adoption
Beyond raising awareness, the initiative focused on enabling real change at the household level. Communities actively engaged, asked questions, and explored how these solutions can be integrated into their daily lives.

Community Engagement in Rubavu (Nyundo Sector) on Umuganda Day
The campaign in Rubavu brought together over 1,500 participants, including community members, local leaders, and national representatives. The session introduced the SFERE Project and provided live demonstrations of improved cookstoves.
Participants had the opportunity to: Observe how the stoves function in real time Understand the health benefits of reduced smoke exposure Learn how clean cooking technologies contribute to environmental protection
Expanding Awareness in Rutsiro on Umuganda Day
In Rutsiro district, similar activities ensured that more communities could access information and practical demonstrations, reinforcing awareness and encouraging adoption. Impact Focus

He emphasized that Rwanda’s plan to deploy a Small Modular Reactor (SMR) by 2030 is not just about energy, but about driving industrial growth, building local capacity, and creating long-term economic value.

The Bureau of the Governing Board convened to review EPD’s performance and align on strategic priorities for 2026.
The meeting brought together Dr. Ivan Twagirashema (Chairman), Jean Claude Uwizeye (Vice Chairman), Eng. Carine Mukashyaka (Secretary), and Serge Wilson Muhizi (CEO), reflecting strong leadership commitment to the Association’s growth and impact.
Discussions focused on ongoing initiatives, including preparations for the 6th Edition of the RE4SG Conference & Exhibition, while also setting the stage for key strategic decisions to guide EPD’s activities in the months ahead.

Empowering Communities on International Women’s Day: Clean Cooking Awareness in Rubavu and Rutsiro Districts |

On International Women’s Day, EPD, through the SFERE Project, conducted a large-scale clean cooking awareness campaign in Rubavu and Rutsiro Districts, bringing together communities to explore sustainable cooking solutions.
The event was held as part of International Women’s Day celebrations, gathering over 1,500 participants in Rubavu district and over 640 participants in Rutsiro district, including community members, local leaders, senators, members of parliament, and security representatives. The strong turnout reflected the growing importance of clean energy solutions in improving everyday life.
During the session, the SFERE Project was introduced, followed by live demonstrations of improved cookstoves. Participants were able to see firsthand how these technologies: Reduce harmful smoke exposure Improve cooking efficiency Protect the environment Enhance safety within households
The interactive demonstrations, conducted by EPD, allowed participants to better understand how the stoves function and how they can be adopted in their daily lives.
Speaking at the event, Jitendra Sinha, Chief Technical Advisor of the SFERE Project, emphasized the transformative impact of clean cooking solutions, particularly for women. By reducing the time spent collecting fuel and limiting exposure to harmful smoke, these technologies contribute directly to improved health, productivity, and quality of life.
Beyond awareness, the campaign created space for dialogue, with participants actively engaging, asking questions, and expressing interest in adopting clean cooking technologies.

Serge Wilson Muhizi, CEO of EPD, highlighted the association’s role in connecting private energy companies and stakeholders to advance clean energy access while fostering collaboration with academic institutions. Sosthene Mubera, CEO of Kolmena Group Ltd, one of EPD members, encouraged students to align their research and technical skills with real market needs, emphasizing entrepreneurship as a pathway to impact. Tony Roberto Nsanganira, Strategic Advisor at the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change and former Minister of State at MINAGRI, stressed the importance of youth empowerment, policy coordination, and the role of energy in enabling sectors such as agriculture and industrialization. Allen Munganyinka from PowerHer addressed barriers limiting women’s participation in the energy sector, emphasizing mentorship, skills development, and inclusive opportunities.
In addition, Damien Frame, Program Manager at the Global Renewables Centre (GRC-University of Strathclyde), presented the Vertically Integrated Projects for Sustainable Development (VIP4SD) initiative, highlighting opportunities for students to engage in practical, impact-driven projects. In Rwamagana District, EPD joined key stakeholders under the Power for Food Partnership (P4FP) to address a critical challenge: making agricultural energy systems work effectively for farmers.
The engagement, aligned with the RA_PURE (Regenerative Agriculture and Productive Use of Renewable Energy) approach, brought together eastern province and district leadership, development partners, and private sector actors, including representatives from SNV, Rwanda Climate Change and Development Network (RCCDN Rwanda), Kilimo Trust, Highland Center for Leadership and Development (HLC-L4D) and the Peace and Development Network (PDN).
Discussions highlighted real challenges faced by farmers:
Stakeholders emphasized the need to adopt practical solutions, such as: Improving the performance of existing irrigation systems Expanding cold storage infrastructures Strengthening technical capacity for cooperatives and youth Promoting solar-powered productive use of energy
The key message was clear: impact comes not just from introducing new technologies, but from making existing systems work sustainably for farmers.

Umuganda with Purpose: Community, Remembrance, and Impact in Bugesera |
|
|
|
This quarter, Umuganda became more than a moment of community work, it became a powerful expression of solidarity, remembrance, and meaningful impact.
At Ikimenyetso cy’Urwibutso rwa Jenoside yakorewe abatutsi mu 1994 ku rufunzo rwa Cyugaro (CND) in Ntarama Sector, Bugesera District, EPD joined hands with POWERHer Rwanda, community members, and national and local leaders, including representatives from the Senate, Parliament, and security institutions.
Together, the activity reflected the true spirit of Umuganda: coming together not only to serve, but to support and uplift communities. |

Rwamagana Agriculture Symposium: Powering Farming Through RA_PURE |
|
|
| On March 31st, EPD joined stakeholders in Rwamagana District for the Rwamagana Agriculture Symposium, held under the Power for Food Partnership (P4FP).
Under the theme “Accelerating Regenerative Agriculture and Productive Use of Renewable Energy (RA_PURE)”, the event served as a call to action to address a critical gap: many farmers still lack access to the knowledge, technologies, and solutions needed to improve productivity.
Bringing together eastern province and district leadership, development partners, private sector actors, and farmers, the symposium focused on connecting communities to practical solutions and partnerships.
As emphasized by Rwamagana’s Vice Mayor for Economic Development, Richard Kagabo Rwamunono: “Improving agricultural productivity is key to transforming livelihoods and requires modern practices and technologies.”

Davis & Shirtliff continues to deliver innovative and sustainable water and energy solutions across Rwanda, with a strong focus on solar-powered systems.
Completed ProjectsDuring the quarter, several key projects were successfully delivered:
Solar Powered Borehole System – Nyagatare
A 1.5kW solar-powered borehole water pumping system was installed to supply reliable water to a local health centre. This project enhances access to clean water while reducing dependency on grid electricity, supporting both healthcare delivery and sustainability goals.
Solar Home Backup System Installation
A 10KVA / 30.6KWh hybrid solar backup system was installed for residential use, ensuring uninterrupted power supply and improved energy reliability. The systemintegrates solar panels, inverters, and battery storage to provide efficient andcontinuous energy.
Product Focus & Market Trends
Davis & Shirtliff continues to actively promote water treatment solutions, ensuring access to safe and clean water for households, institutions, and commercial users.
In addition, smart pumps and booster sets have emerged as some of the leading products this quarter. This is largely driven by the increasing demand for:
Reliable and consistent water pressure in residential and commercial properties Efficient water supply systems, especially in areas with inconsistent water flow Automation and energy efficiency, enabling users to optimize performance and reduce operational costs
As customers increasingly prioritize reliability and convenience, these solutions have seen strong adoption across the market.

KOLMENA GROUP LTD
Kigali, Rwanda – Kolmena Group continues to demonstrate strong leadership in renewable energy and sustainable water solutions, positively transforming communities across Rwanda through impactful solar power and water pumping projects.
Over the last 3 months, Kolmena Group has successfully implemented several clean energy initiatives aimed at improving energy access, supporting economic activities, and enhancing water availability in both rural and urban communities.
CAPACITY BUILDING
During Quarter 1 2026, we signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) with Bildungswerk der Baden-Württembergischen Wirtschaft after Gacuriro Technical Training and Saint Joseph Integrated Technical College to strengthen knowledge transfer and hands-on skills development in solar and renewable-energy technologies.
Through these partnerships, students received intensive, practice-oriented training in solar PV system design and installation, solar water pumping solutions, and solar thermal heating systems, aligned with real industry standards. The program emphasized on-site practical work, enabling students to apply theoretical knowledge directly on live projects and modern equipment. In addition, the students were formally hosted and supported through structured internships, enhancing their employability and readiness for immediate integration into the renewable-energy workforce.
ALL IN ONE SOLAR HYBRID SYSTEM
We successfully installed a fully off-grid solar power system in Bugesera District with a total capacity of 4.68 kWp, using eight (8) 585 W Jinko Solar PV modules. The system is supported by a 10 kWh (2 × 5kWh) BYD 51 V Lithium Iron Phosphate battery, ensuring reliable energy storage and long operational life.
A 3-kW hybrid transformer-based inverter with an integrated 5.2 kWp MPPT charge controller manages the system, optimizing solar generation and battery performance. This setup provides a stable and uninterrupted power supply for essential facility loads, delivering full energy independence without reliance on the grid.
ASCENT PROGRAM IN NYARUGURU, RUTSIRO and GATSIBO
ASCENT (Accelerating sustainable and clean energy access Transformation) Through the ASCENT Program, Kolmena Group Ltd has delivered clean, reliable electricity to remote off-grid communities where access was previously limited or nonexistent. By deploying decentralized renewable energy solutions, the initiative has improved livelihoods, strengthened local economies, and reduced reliance on fossil fuels.
Access to electricity has enabled households and small businesses to expand productive activities while improving education, health, and safety outcomes.
In the first quarter of 2026, Kolmena powered 1,600 households, and the company is positioned to quadruple this reach in the next phase, advancing inclusive and sustainable energy access.
PROGRAM SOLAR RWANDA
Over 29 New Solar Installations Completed this quarter; Kolmena Group Ltd successfully delivered over 61 new solar installations across various districts in Rwanda.
These installations reinforce our mission to promote green energy solutions and reduce dependence on non-renewable power sources. We are committed to providing Rwandans with high-quality solar technologies and professional support.
As energy needs continue to grow, Kolmena Group Ltd will focus on increasing access to clean and renewable energy, offering affordable and sustainable solar solutions, delivering strong customer service and maintenance support, and contributing to Rwanda's national clean energy goals. In the coming months, we will expand our reach, enhance service quality, and introduce innovative solar solutions to support households, schools, health centers, and small businesses.

Through a combination of solar deployment, community-focused initiatives, and capacity building, the company is contributing to the country's transition toward sustainable energy.
Smart Village Project A key milestone in this journey is the Smart Village Project, launched in 2017 in Tumba Sector, Rulindo District. This initiative demonstrated the transformative power of solar energy by electrifying off-grid communities through solar-powered infrastructure. By integrating energy with social impact, the project enabled access to digital learning through mobile, solar-powered container classrooms, bringing electricity and opportunity to areas previously underserved.
DigiTruck Programme Building on this foundation, SOLEKTRA is currently implementing energy-enabled solutions under the DigiTruck programme, in partnership with Huawei and national stakeholders. The programme relies on robust solar-powered systems to support mobile classrooms equipped with digital tools, ensuring uninterrupted learning even in areas with limited or no grid access. From August 2025 to February 2026, the programme has delivered measurable results: • 1,039 individuals trained across multiple communities • 23 districts reached, demonstrating wide geographic energy impact • 65% female participation, reinforcing inclusive access to energy-enabled opportunities • 23 community cells activated, supported by decentralized solar solutions These achievements highlight the critical role of solar energy not only as a source of power, but as an enabler of education, productivity, and socio-economic development. Rusumo Falls Hydropower Project – 80 MW (Construction Supervision Services) Energicotel Plc provided comprehensive engineering supervision for civil, electrical, and mechanical works on this strategic regional project, ensuring quality, safety, and timely overall implementation phase as a sub-consultant of AECOM Engineering–Canada.
Lihanda Hydropower Project (3.34 MW), Located in Kisumu–Kenya Energicotel Plc provided engineering services related to project studies, including design, feasibility, and topographic studies.
Rusizi & Rubavu Port Facility Substations (Design, Supervision and Commissioning) Energicotel Plc delivered the full substation package for both Rubavu and Rusizi Port Facilities, from engineering design and equipment procurement to installation, testing, and commissioning. The Rubavu substation has been successfully completed, while the Rusizi substation is currently at the completion phase.
Nyabarongo & Kilinda Substations Energicotel Plc executed the full scope of works on both substations, including design, installation, commissioning, and maintenance. (30kV upgrade to 110kV Substation Gears and associated power transmission systems)

The initiative aimed to raise awareness and build knowledge on the integration of renewable energy technologies across the agri-food value chain. This aligns with Rwanda’s national development agenda to increase agricultural productivity and address the challenges posed by climate change.

| The ReCIC Action Initiative: Driving Clean Cooking Solutions in Rwanda |

The initiative kicked off with a Stakeholder Meeting at Galaxy Hotel, bringing together key actors to exchange insights, share progress, and identify opportunities to accelerate Rwanda’s transition toward sustainable cooking solutions.
Following the meeting, a 3-day Clean Cooking Exhibition was held at CHIC Exhibition Space, where EPD member companies showcased innovative and climate-smart cooking technologies designed to protect the environment and improve livelihoods.
Implemented by GIZ and SNV, and organized by EPD, the ReCIC Action Initiative is supported by the Government of Rwanda, GCCA+ (funded by the European Union), German Cooperation, and Energising Development (EnDev).
Together, we continue to promote cleaner energy solutions that protect our planet and transform communities.

| EPD was represented at the 4th China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo (CAETE), held from June 12 - 15, 2025, in Changsha, Hunan Province. Our Head of the Clean Cooking Subsector attended on behalf of EPD, engaging in meaningful dialogues around trade cooperation, innovation, and sustainable development. With the theme “China and Africa: Together Toward Modernization,” this year's CAETE brought together over 10,000 participants and focused on implementing the “Ten Partnership Actions” outlined during the 2024 Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC). This platform enabled insightful exchanges between African and Chinese governments, enterprises, and institutions highlighting critical sectors such as infrastructure, new energy, legal services, logistics, and entrepreneurship. We are honored to contribute to such initiatives that foster high quality Belt and Road cooperation and help build an all-weather China-Africa community with a shared future. |

| EPD joined ARC Power, Volkswagen, GIZ, MINIFRA, RAB, and partners at the Gen Farm e-Hub kick-off in Gashora, a national initiative promoting renewable energy solutions in agriculture.
EPD’s CEO highlighted the role of clean energy in boosting productivity through solar-powered irrigation, renewable drying and cooling systems, and electric tractors. Notably, electric tractors demonstrated significant efficiency gains—costing about 70,000 RWF per hectare and completing work in under a day, compared to traditional methods that cost more and take weeks.
The event showcased practical demonstrations of electric tractors, charging stations, and solar infrastructure, reinforcing the impact of renewable energy in building efficient, climate-resilient agricultural value chains. |

On behalf of EPD, the MOU was signed by Wilson Serge Muhizi, CEO of EPD, while Dr. Mohamed Alhaj, Founder and Managing Director of Terra Energy, signed on behalf of his company.
This MOU is expected to bring strong cooperation between both parties in consultancy projects, research, and training programs.

| In the sideline of the workshop organized by USAID/Power Africa off-grid to discuss potential policy intervention for Productive Use of Energy (PUE) in Easter African communities, the Kenya Renewable Energy Association (KEREA) and the Burundi Renewable Energy Association (BUREA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Energy Private Developers (EPD), establishing a collaborative alliance aimed at accelerating the progress of Renewable Energy initiatives throughout the East African region.
During the formal signing ceremony in Kampala, Uganda, all parties reached an agreement on a number of essential issues, including Opt-In and Joint Membership efforts, as well as Data Sharing protocols. These collaborative efforts have been intentionally designed to further the cause of Renewable Energy Development in East Africa. |
CSC/Koblenz Partners with EPD for Capacity Building Sessions on Solar Systems |

| CSC/koblenz, under its program: “Partner Africa,” formed a partnership with EPD to facilitate a series of impactful capacity building sessions focused on Solar systems. These sessions were designed to enhance knowledge, foster skills, and promote awareness in the field of solar energy. Through this collaboration, CSC/Koblenz and EPD aim to contribute to sustainable development by empowering individuals with the expertise required to harness the potential of solar technology.
The sessions brought together more than 50 solar energy technicians and sparked a strong interest in practical skills. Attendees are ready and capable to share their newfound knowledge with coworkers. Their dedication demonstrates their commitment to improving solar energy knowledge both within and outside their respective companies.

| Collective Energy Africa in partnership with EPD conducted training on BYD lithium-ion residential and commercial energy storage | EPD teamed up with Collective Energy Africa (CEA) for two days of discovery focused on the innovative BYD Lithium Ion batteries. Participants from various member companies embarked on an exploration to uncover the details and impressive advantages of BYD batteries compared to traditional Lead Ion batteries. The consensus is clear: BYD Lithium Ion batteries are on track to transform our journey toward sustainable energy. | The International Solar Alliance (ISA) convened its 5th regional meeting in Kigali, Rwanda, on August 31, 2023, with the support of the Government of Rwanda under MININFRA. This significant event witnessed the participation of 36 countries and ministers from 15 nations.
This meeting also brought chance to Solar companies to showcase their innovations, where 6 companies, 3 locals and 3 non-locals participated in the ISA Exhibition that happened on the 2nd and 3rd days of the meeting. | EPD Participated in the Africa Climate Week 2023 convened in Kenya | | Africa Climate Week 2023 provided a platform for policymakers, practitioners, businesses and civil society to exchange on climate solutions, barriers to overcome and opportunities realized in different regions, leading to the first global stocktake concluding at COP28 in UAE in December of this year. The Africa Climate Week considered four major systems-based tracks with a view to providing region-focused contributions to inform the global stocktake on: Energy systems and industry Cities, urban and rural settlements, infrastructure and transport Land, ocean, food and water Societies, health, livelihoods, and economies
EPD specifically participated in the Climate Summit, engaging in sideline discussions of the China-Africa Partnership for Sustainable Investment in Renewable Energy. We showcased the incredible opportunities in Africa, with a special focus on Rwanda, to attract more investments into the Rwandan energy landscape. We eagerly await potential partnerships with the Chinese energy sector in Rwanda, Kenya, and Ethiopia.
Moreover, EPD participated in a sideline workshop organized by Clean Cooking Alliance(CCA) and joined the Africa Clean Cooking Alliance Network, the network that represents all clean Cooking Alliances in Africa.
A week in Kenya for EPD was beyond the Climate Week; Was also a chance to network, connect, attract energy investments, learn, and outreach. | World Bank, Development Bank of Rwanda(BRD) and EDCL Convened in a meeting to discuss the Renewable Energy Fund Implementation Support Mission | On 15th September 2023, solar companies under EPD convened with EDCL, BRD, and World Bank consultants. The mission of the meeting was to delve deep into the progress and setbacks of the REF World Bank Implementation Support Mission. Together, they looked at ways to tackle the significant challenges that lie ahead, ensuring that the Renewable Energy Fund(REF) project continues to thrive. Their discussions centered around Window 5, shedding light on challenges being faced by companies. It's a collaborative effort dedicated to a sustainable and greener future for all. |

EPD SIGNS AN MoU WITH INKOMOKO ENTREPRENEUR DEVELOPMENT
EPD signed an MoU with Inkomoko Entrepreneurs Development (a network of accelerators & loan funds that support entrepreneurs in Africa as a solution to the continent’s unemployment crisis). The collaboration areas will focus on: business growth services, access to capital & access to market through e-commerce
WOMEN IN THE ENERGY SECTOR: CATALYZING ACTION TOWARDS INCLUSIVE ENERGY TRANSITION
POWERHer is a network of women in the energy sector, supported by the Women in Rwandan Energy (WIRE), an initiative implemented by USAID through the Power Africa East Africa Energy (EAEP) Project as the first certified independent non-profit organization of a professional network of women in the energy sector. POWERHer is an organization that empowers Rwandan women to achieve positions of leadership and influence in the energy sector.
POWERHer held a stakeholders’ engagement workshop on July 22nd,2022, in collaboration with Women in Energy Rwanda. The workshop aimed to strengthen energy sector stakeholder commitments and an integrated approach to supporting the promotion of gender inclusion in Rwanda's energy sector. This workshop brought together various high-ranking leaders, policymakers, experts, and practitioners from Rwanda's energy sector (Representatives from different energy companies, REG, EUCL, EPD, RURA, MININFRA, MIGEPROF, POWER AFRICA, Lenz Training Center, Three Mountains, RAWISE, Women Chamber, BK, and many more.
WIRE and POWERHer, along with stakeholders, celebrated young women engineers who passed the RURA electrical installation exam, obtained RURA electrical permit, and are poised to shape the future of Rwanda's energy industry.
EPD ENGAGES IN THE PRODUCTIVE USE OF RENEWABLE ENERGY
EPD, in partnership with GOGLA EPD, engaged in the productive use of Renewable Energy with the aim of scaling up the effective use of energy for food security & economic empowerment in Rwanda. Constructive inputs were shared by different stakeholders, including public & private institutions, and development partners.
AWARENESS CAMPAIGN AIMING AT LOCAL LEADERS' PARTICIPATION IN ACCELERATING OFF-GRID ELECTRIFICATION |
In response to the Government’s target to have all Rwandan households connected to electricity by 2024, EPD in partnership with Rwanda Development Bank (BRD) and Energy Development Cooperation (EDCL) conducted an awareness campaign for local leaders in all 30 Districts of Rwanda. The campaign was aimed at mobilizing local leaders to engage in sensitization of the citizens living in areas demarcated for Off-grid electrification to tap into the Renewable Energy Fund (REF) Programs designed to have all of them connected to electricity by 2024.
PARTICIPATION OF EPD MEMBERS IN THE IEEE POWER AFRICA 2022 CONFERENCE
EPD members participated and provided presentations on different topics at the IEEE PES & IAS Power Africa 2022 conference. The presentations covered the following topics:
The first topic was on clean cooking and discussed the available technologies as well as the funding opportunities. The second topic discussed on Productive Use, mainly the evolving off-grid technology and the readiness of higher institutions of learning to bridge the knowledge gap. The third topic highlighted the trend of E-mobility in Africa.
Following the above topics, opportunities and challenges were discussed. |
